For as long as I can remember, I have been aware of the transient nature of things. Also the finitude of our own existence. In my work I am driven by a form of melancholy, an unfulfilled desire. It also provides a great awareness of time. The short duration of life but also the infinity, that ultimately everything continues after we are long gone. This turns everything into a story, with a beginning, an end and a sequel. This way of looking is reflected in my work because I approach my paintings as scenes from life, the life we all live, reduced to one frame.

Biografie

After studying Economics, I started taking painting classes. From that moment on, my interest in the visual arts took off and I attended the three-year City Academy in The Hague (Netherlands). After completion in 2014, I contributed to the development of the artist collective and studio Art Resort Studios and I had a year of lessons in classical painting techniques at Atelier Sint Lucas in The Hague. In 2015 I completed my first works and found a collaboration with a gallery in Rotterdam, through which my work was purchased by various collectors.

“Boomsma has received numerous nominations for the Dutch Portrait Prize and her work has even been pre-selected for the portrait prize of the National Portrait Gallery in London this year. Amongst other places, her work has hung in De Fundatie, CODA Museum, Soestdijk Palace and Slot Zeist. This summer, her work will be on display at Museum Vlaardingen. Boomsma also painted the winning portrait of Eva Jinek for the Dutch TV program 'Sterren op het Doek'.”
